One Response to Community Meeting Today – Niumalu Park 5:30pm

  1. Borden, Joseph V says:

    Aloha,

At your meeting can you inform the powers at be, that we may not be able to spray herbicide in the near future. Last week the staff was using a herbicide that is safe near the waters, I can’t recall its name, but it’s the same as Aqua Master. Due to state/OSHA policies/requirements, staff are required to wear the proper PPE’s or Personal Protective Equipment. In this case; a dust mask and long sleeve shirts and pants. As passerby seeing my staff with the PPEs and called the Department of Agriculture and reported us spraying “chemicals” near the water and the road. The individual walking by had no idea that it was not hazardous. The amount we use is in accordance with the label, which is 1 oz. per 3 gallons of water. That’s why you’ll notice it takes about a week or so before you even notice any color change at where we sprayed, because the herbicide to water ratio is very minute.

Anyway, long story short, the agent notified us of upcoming changes in the laws and rules in regards to using herbicides near any body of water. If these laws/rules gets passed,; I guess we’re going to have to maintain it by hand.

Aloha and Mahalo for the AWESOME job you guys are doing.
