Teamwork with the Boys and Girls Club

With kids and the staff from the Boys and Girls Club pitching in, our last community workday of 2013 (Dec. 21) was an efficient team operation. It seemed that everyone naturally took to a job that complemented everyone else’s job. Some took to cutting up trees and branches with the chain saws, others lopped roots and stacked them in carts and barrels, while still others carted the roots or dragged the branches to the chipper – which was being operated by yet another team. We also had people brush-wacking mangrove stumps, pulling up Indian fleabane and keiki mangrove, filling the green waste bin, raking up debris, collecting trash, and -not to be overlooked – preparing lunch. By the end of the day, we even had a team that roped in a derelict boat, cut it up and hauled it off to the dump. The Mālama Hulē‘ia project site looked pretty clean at pau hana.
